Bijou Theatre Grand Reopening Concert
Knoxville, TN
June 2, 2006
The newly-restored historic Bijou Theatre came alive again to the sound of music from some of Knoxville's best-loved musicians, including Robinella, R.B. Morris, the Knoxville Jazz Band and Con Hunley. |
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam, R.B. Morris and Con Hunley help several other dignataries cut the ribbon to unveil the newly restored Bijou.
Before the show, Con talks with his friend Bill Williams, the evening's emcee and distinguished master of ceremonies.
Knoxville's own Robinella, accompanied by her multi-talented husband, Cruz Contreras, casts her spell over the Bijou crowd.
Hmm, these people look familiar . . . looks like they're having a good time!
After Robinella, Con and the band take the stage, continuing the magic.
Play it Con! The last time Con Hunley appeared at the Bijou Theatre was in April of 1981, where he performed at two sold out shows over two evenings. This is one of his favorite venues because of the wonderful acoustics and historic setting.
Tim, Kenny and Ruth were in rare form.
Ken Jackson on the sax and Stan Williamson on keyboards.
Con singing it from the heart. The Bijou is an intimate jewel of a theatre, with very special acoustics and not a bad seat in the house.
The building where the Bijou is housed started life as The Lamar House hotel in 1817. It was opened as the "Bijou Theatre" in 1909 and has had thousands of talented performers gracing the stage since then, including the ones you see here.
Con and the band performed "That Old Clock," his brand new single from Shoot From The Heart ~ Click here to watch.
